The inspiration for my event benefiting the children’s hospital, Cupcakes4Charity, was based on the previous year’s branding by Donny Carpio. Because the sale was being held in Autumn this past year, I updated the colors to match more of a harvest feel but I wanted to make sure the colors were still fun and vibrant and in line with cupcakes and especially kids! I added a polka dot pattern and created a seal, which is reminiscent of a cupcake wrapper. I enjoyed making the advertisement materials and event decor. It was a fun break from doing interaction design and client work.
Here’s another cupcake I made for the Autumn Bake Sale. Everyone knows I’m a big fan of Starbucks so my creativity went wild when I thought of ways to create a Starbucks cupcake.
I took a coffee/chocolate cupcake recipe (using real Starbucks coffee) and baked in regular cupcake liners. After the cupcakes were cool, I peeled off the liner and placed the cupcake in a 4 oz coffee cup. I topped them with Better Creme chocolate whipped icing and sprinkled crushed oreos on top. Try mini chocolate chips, sprinkles, or chocolate shavings! I then cut Starbucks straws in half and stuck them into the cupcake for decoration.
For the logo labels, I printed two logos on a piece of paper and cut them out by measuring the coffee cups. They worked out great!

This year’s annual cupcake bake sale was another success! I scheduled it the week of Halloween, hoping that customers would be looking for sweet treats for the holiday. We actually had a few people leave with a dozen cupcakes! We raised about $450 for the children’s hospital. Each year, we continue to raise more and more. I’m thankful to have great coworkers who are willing to dedicate their time and baking skills for such a worthy cause. Thank you Gabe, Margie, Mark, Cinda, Mike, Anthony, Nicole, Rey, Donny, Diego, Matt, Gayle, Renee, Oscar, Kristin, and Makenzie.
I will be posting an entry for each of the cupcakes I ended up baking for the event. Below are some photos of the handmade decor and marketing materials I designed along with free printable cupcake toppers I created. Enjoy!

This is the second bake sale I’ve hosted to raise funds for charity. They are such a huge success that I’ve decided to make this an annual event! We raised about $400 for Rady’s Children’s Hospital this year I want to say thank you to everyone who helped with selling and baking! Special thanks to Mark, Rey, Donny, Shellie, Nicole, Anthony, Gabe, Margie, Lisa, and Mercedes.

I haven’t made these in soo long! Since they are individual servings, extremely easy to make, and quick, I figured they were the ideal dessert to bake during a weeknight for our bake sale tomorrow. The proceeds will benefit a non-profit breast cancer support organization that our company often fundraises for. I wanted to use orange and black sprinkles to fit in with Halloween but I just couldn’t find any!
If you try this recipe, you’ll find filling the cones half full won’t rise enough over the edge of the cone if you want to frost and sprinkle them. Otherwise, you could try adding a scoop of real ice cream on top of the cake for an even more delicious treat!
